THE 233rd anniversary of the brief but bloody Battle of Jersey was marked on Saturday with events across the Island.
Around 130 people gathered in the Royal Square for a service to mark the occasion and to recreate American artist John Singleton Copley’s depiction of the battle on the very spot where it took place.
Earlier, 88 Islanders walked from St Lawrence Church to the Town Hall, following the route taken by the parish militia as they converged on the town on 6 January 1781 following the French invasion.
Every year the walk, which is led by local historian Frank Falle, follows a different route taken by one of the local militias.
A separate group of around two dozen people walked from Grouville to town in honour of the 3rd or South-East Regiment of the Jersey Militia.
