A SILENT disco is among the new additions to this year’s Gorey Fête, which will take place on Friday, as organisers prepare the line-up of games, music and entertainment.
It will be the second year running that the event has been held on a Friday, having switched from its traditional Thursday date in the hope that more people can attend.
A team of St Martin volunteers, in collaboration with event sponsor Jersey Mutual, are getting ready to host the usual funfair, beach games, entertainment, music, spaghetti eating, yard-of-ale competition and fireworks – as well as some new additions including a silent disco and a revived fancy dress competition for children.
Entry costs £7 for adults, £3 for under-16s and is free for children under five, with the gates due to open at 10am and the fireworks display scheduled to round off proceedings at 10.30pm.
The weather forecast for this Friday includes the possibility of some rain, something that may have hindered turnout last year.
But Lester Richardson, chair of the Gorey Fête Committee, urged Islanders to support the event – pointing out that it was run by volunteers and raised money for charity. “We are hoping we will get a good response,” he added.
