A 42-YEAR-OLD man has admitted possessing ecstasy – but claimed that he had kept it after finding it on the street.
A wallet belonging to Jamie Collier was found in Cheapside on the morning of 9 July. A small transparent bag within it was discovered to contain just over two grams of the class A drug.
Collier told the Magistrate’s Court that he had found the drugs a week earlier, put the bag in his wallet and forgotten it was there.
“It was just a stupid mistake – that’s all,” he said.
The court also heard that he had a previous conviction for possessing a class A drug from February 2016.
Assistant Magistrate Adam Clarke fined him £1,000 and allowed him to pay at a rate of £200 per week.
