ANOTHER of Jersey’s round towers could be converted into tourism accommodation, if a planning application is approved.
Conway Tower, near the former Wayside Café site in St Brelade’s Bay, was until recently used as a one-bedroom flat.
Conway Tower Properties, which owns the site, has applied to change the tower’s use to allow it to be rented out to visitors. Developers have demolished a 1970s-era wall around the building and are planning to build a publicly accessible viewing area around it.
The scheme forms part of wider plans for the area which also include the creation of a new café, which will be run by Randalls, and a surf shop.
Other improvements include the creation of a new bus stop and pavement on Mont Sohier, paid for by the developers.
The popularity of historic buildings as holiday lets has soared in recent years with Islanders and tourists able to stay in a vast range of places. Jersey Heritage lets include Elizabeth Castle, La Rocco Tower and Seymour Tower, while stays can also be booked at the National Trust for Jersey’s Le Câtel Fort, the Officers Quarters at Grève de Lecq Barracks and Le Don Hilton.
