A MAJOR search continues for a man who vanished four days ago.

Richard Romeril left his home in St John at 8:30am on Friday morning and was later spotted on CCTV in town.

Police have said the 48-year-old purchased camping equipment, including a green tent, a black and blue sleeping bag, a grey Eurohike rucksack and a blue foam sleeping mat from Blacks in King Street.

He was spotted again on CCTV at B&Q buying an orange bucket and a grey tarpaulin.

His vehicle, a black Kia Sportage, was found at Noirmont Point at around 2pm the same day.

Drones, a French helicopter, the police, Jersey Fire and Rescue Service officers, a search dog and the Coastguard have all been involved in the search and rescue operation, which has focused on the south-west of the Island.

Officers have also been distributing flyers – featuring the image of Mr Romeril at B&Q – to houses around the Noirmont, Portelet and Ouaisné areas.

Mr Romeril is white, 5ft 3in tall, with a receding hair line and moustache. He has a stocky build and was last seen wearing a brown or orange T-shirt, with black shorts, and light-coloured work boots.

The police would like to speak to anyone who may have seen him or a man matching his description, or his Kia Sportage, since Friday.

In a statement released yesterday afternoon, the force said: ‘Police are appealing for anyone in the parish of St Brelade, in particular the areas of Ouaisné, Noirmont and Portelet, with private CCTV, doorbell cameras, dash-cam footage or any honesty box veg stalls with CCTV to get in touch.

‘Police are also asking residents living in these areas to check their gardens, fields, sheds and out-buildings for any sign of Richard.’

Anyone with information can call 612612, selecting option 2, then option 4.
