The Bailiff Timothy Le Cocq, who has issued the request, has meanwhile paid tribute to the ‘Jersey spirit’ shown during the coronavirus crisis with members of the public demonstrating a desire to ‘protect fellow islanders’ and help those in need.
He has asked Islanders to pause for one minute at midday on Tuesday [30 March] to reflect on those who died due from Covid or passed away while the lockdown was in force.
Mr Le Cocq has also dedicated the silence to those who have faced great challenges during the restrictions as well as those who have made great efforts to keep Jersey functioning during the pandemic.
A pre-recorded speech of the Bailiff speaking from the Royal Court Building’s Old Library – where the decision was taken by the Emergencies Council to place Jersey into lockdown – has been released.
