The yellow alert, the lowest level of alert issued by Jersey Met, says: ‘A wintry mix of rain and snow is expected for a short period of time around midday or early afternoon tomorrow (Thursday).

‘There is a low risk of very small (<0.5cm) accumulations of snow, mainly across the higher parts of the Island. A further advisory will be issued if and when necessary.'

An orange-level warning – the second highest level – has been issued for ice on Wednesday night. A yellow-level thunderstorm warning has also been issued for the Channel Islands.

Large parts of the UK were hit by heavy snow on Wednesday, with Manchester and Liverpool airports both briefly closing their runways.
