A French Navy helicopter was also put on standby.

The crew of the inshore boat found the trio on the Minquiers’ main island and transferred them to the JLA vessel, which brought them back to St Helier.

In a Facebook post, Jersey Coastguard said: ‘Jersey Coastguard would like to thank the JLA, RNLI and French Coastguard for their rapid response this evening and carrying out a successful joint mission.’

A Ports of Jersey marine services vessel was due to inspect the sunken vessel this morning.
