Appeal for return of Frank the Co-op cat

The animal took up residence in the shop’s car park in 2010, lying on car bonnets and taking shelter from the rain in nearby bushes – but he has not been seen since late February.

Frank’s owner, Stacey Goode – who lives on a nearby estate – said she was convinced that the 13-year-old feline had been taken in by a well-meaning Islander and she appealed for them to put him back.

Explaining how Frank had come to live in the car park, she said: ‘We used to live in a flat next to the Tipsy Toad pub in St Peter before moving to an estate further down the road.

‘We got him in 2005 but then five years later he stopped coming home and began living in the car park of the Co-op Grand Marché instead. He would roll in the leaves in the autumn, lie on car bonnets and go in the bushes when it was raining.’

She added that she had repeatedly tried to bring Frank back to his home, where he had lived since he was a kitten but he continued to escape.

The mother of three who works at a law firm and is married to John, said she was absolutely sure someone had taken Frank and that he had not succumbed to the March cold snap during which temperatures dropped as low as -4°C.

‘I am 100 per cent confident we would have heard about it if he had been run over because he was micro-chipped.

‘He is a really outdoors cat and used to just sit in the garden in torrential rain. I think he would have survived it.’

It is not the first time Frank has gone missing. In December, he went missing but later turned up miles away from St Peter in the Fort Regent car park.

Mrs Goode added: ‘It is totally out of character for him not to be there. There have been a few times that he has gone away but he has always come back.’
