England’s batting woes continued at Lord’s as openers Alastair Cook and Mark Stoneman departed cheaply on day three of the first NatWest Test.
Cook managed only one run – his fourth single-figure score in his last six Test innings – before Stoneman departed for nine after making just four in his first knock.
Their dismissals left England 37 for two at lunch, still needing another 142 to make a rampant Pakistan bat again.
Skipper Joe Root was unbeaten on 22 at the interval, with Dawid Malan yet to score, as the hosts battle to avoid their sixth defeat in eight Tests.
Earlier, Pakistan added 13 to their overnight total before they were bowled out for 363, with Mark Wood having Abbas caught behind in the day’s fifth over.
