Sir Alex Ferguson is the most successful manager in the history of the British game, spending 26 years at Manchester United and winning 38 trophies in that time.

2.3million: The British transfer record fee Ferguson paid to sign Gary Pallister for Manchester United from Middlesbrough.

7million: The British transfer record Ferguson paid to sign Andy Cole from Newcastle.

30,000: Ferguson was fined £30,000 for his verbal attack on referee Martin Atkinson at Chelsea in 2011 “You want a fair referee, or a strong referee anyway – and we didn’t get that,” said Ferguson in the aftermath of the 2-1 defeat. “I must say, when I saw who the referee was I feared it. I feared the worst.”

26: Old Trafford’s 26-year wait for a title ended in 1993 as United won the inaugural Premier League title.
