The Heroes Ale, which is due to be rolled out in Liberation pubs across the Island from 20 August, is being created on behalf of Holidays for Heroes Jersey, which was founded ten years ago by Dawn Woodhouse.

The charity, run by Mrs Woodhouse and her husband Richard, has given more than 2,600 injured members of the Armed Forces and their families a much-needed break in the Island over the past decade.

And this week the couple were on hand to help pour the hops into the brew at Liberation’s headquarters on Longueville Road.

They were joined on site by head brewer Pat Dean, Liberation chief executive Mark Crowther and Tim Hubert, also of Liberation Group.

Mr Woodhouse said: ‘We are thrilled to have an ale being made in honour of H4HJ’s tenth anniversary.’

Heroes Ale will be brewed to a strength of 4.2 per cent ABV (alcohol by volume) and Liberation Brewery said it would be a crisp fruity wheat beer, with a delicate hop and orangey-bready overtones.

Mr Hubert said that 30 casks – 2,000 pints – would be sold in all Liberation Pubs and free trade real ale pubs in Jersey.

He added: ‘Holidays for Heroes Jersey are one of Liberation Group’s preferred charities which we support throughout the year and we will be making an extra donation from the sales of the tenth anniversary beer.’

The new brew will be officially launched at noon on 20 August outside the Cock & Bottle pub in the Royal Square, and 13 Ghurkas and their families who the charity are bringing over for holidays will be among the guests.

The charity will also be holding public collections from Monday 20 August to Saturday 25 August outside the M&S store beside the apple crusher in town.
