Daniel Ricciardo and Max Verstappen really did not have a good time with the infamous durian fruit

The infamous durian fruit, banned by many hotels and airlines in Southeast Asia due to its overpowering odour, almost proved too much for two Red Bull drivers.

Daniel Ricciardo and Max Verstappen were tasked with breaking open the fruit while in Singapore, where F1 takes place this weekend.

Videos abound on the internet of people trying the so-called “smelliest fruit in the world” for the first time, and Verstappen’s reaction could be added to a long compilation of people not native to Southeast Asia reacting with disgust.

The smell of durian fruit, of which there are many different varieties, has been compared to raw sewage and rotting flesh by some people – or onions and meat at best.

Its flesh is described as “custardy”, as can be seen in the video, and its taste is said to be almost incomparable to most other foods – a mix of sweet, savoury and creamy.

One thing is for certain though: it’s certainly not to Verstappen or Ricciardo’s tastes.
