Juniors jet off to Japan

Given the opportunity to appear for their home ‘nation’ after CI’s acceptance onto the global stage, the team will be led in Hyuga by 17-year-old Jay Clayton and former GB U16 girls captain Kitty Brewer. The latter is seeded number one in both the U16 and U18 girls divisions at the most prestigious junior event in world surfing, which begins on Saturday.

Gus Brewer, Elizabeth College student Louis Tostevin and De La Salle pupil Kade Penny join Clayton in the U18 boys category, with Tostevin and Penny also set to appear in the U16s alongside Fin Mathews and Tom Hook.

Gabs Taylor (15) and 13-year-old Claudia Cosgrove surf in the U18 and U16 groups respectively, and both already have international experience after competing at the European Junior Championships in Morocco last year.
