Jersey Reds’ youngsters were among those cheering arguably the most famous team in world rugby off coaches adorned in Lions livery, with their hugely-anticipated arrival marking the start of an 11-day visit that has attracted national interest.

Cowbells contributed a cacophony of noise as the players made their first public appearance as a group, led by captain Alun Wyn Jones.

‘A big thanks to all of you for the welcome we’ve had already, and thanks for putting on the weather as well,’ said Welshman Jones, who addressed the crowd in the hotel car park.

The Lions begin their training regime with sessions at Strive Academy and Jersey Rugby Club. The first of two open training sessions takes place on Friday, with over 1,000 Islanders being offered the opportunity to attend.
