Jersey Reds hit 50 at Hartpury

A Tom Williams hat-trick in the first half was the stand-out scoring feat at Hartpury University as the Reds – 50-19 winners – were unrecognisable from the lacklustre display against Coventry the previous week.

Williams struck after 11 minutes, added a second from Brendan Cope’s pinpoint cross-kick and claimed his third after 34 minutes. In between times there had been one try for the hosts by James Williams, plus another Jersey effort from Max Green, and before the half-time whistle blew Cope sprinted home after an interception to make it 31-7 at the break.

The second half began with an early try apiece, Williams turning provider for Scott Van Breda to score and then Lennon adding a second for the hosts, but then there was a scoring drought until Morgan Monks crossed for Hartpury after 65 minutes.

The Reds made a series of changes and finished strongly with replacements Jack Macfarlane and Bader Pretorius crossing for two more tries.
