The Reds assistant coach has been away on England coaching duty for the Six Nations as their interim skills coach but tuned in to watch his club face the former Premiership and European champions before a dramatic England victory over France at Twickenham.

He is now focused on helping head coach Eddie Jones plot a win over Ireland in Dublin this Saturday – soon after Jersey take on Championship new boys Richmond in west London.

‘We performed really well for the first 20-25 minutes [against Saracens] and then a few areas led to some scores,’ said Robinson. ‘But we did a lot of good things. I thought the scrum was excellent at the start of the game. I’ve obviously seen what we’ve been doing over pre-season and there’s a lot of work gone into it and you could definitely see that in the game. There are also some areas to improve. It was a good start and we’ve got to make sure we get better to play Richmond at the weekend.’

Robinson also reserved praise for the Championship and its importance to the domestic game.

‘There are a number of players [in the England squad] who have played in the Championship,’ he said. ‘There is a lot of love there. It’s good rugby and it’s a great development tool for players and coaches.’
