Annual netball awards announced via Zoom

The organisation’s annual awards ‘ceremony’ took place via Zoom video call on Thursday night and there were once again words of praise for junior and senior players alike – including 2019/20 JNA player of the year Leah Griffin following a season of highlights with St Clement and Team Jets.

Griffin made her mark for Team Jets in South West Regional Division I this term and proved to be a valuable asset for St Clement A in the Dominion Winter League.

‘Leah has improved immensely in a performance setting over the past few years,’ said JNA president and Jets coach Linda Andrews. ‘She is keen to learn and understand new plays and to put them into practise in the games and has become our Team Jets target using her height, elevation and speed. She has produced some outstanding performances this season.’

Also receiving online applause was junior player of the year Molly Carré – now a regular face in Convent A and Team Jets’ starting sevens – while 2019 JNA senior player of the year Rosie Tonner has traded accolades after taking the award for Jets’ top performer. The latter prize was awarded by Jets captain Jacy Brown.

The LinJax Trophy for outstanding effort both on and off the court went to Kirsty Ludlam, following an inspirational season which has featured regular coaching, club captaincy in Winter League Division I and a Level C umpiring award. She also made her Jets debut in October.

The Normal Family Shield for 2019/20 was awarded to Hope Jordan while the umpire of the year award – voted for by every team in the three Winter League divisions – was given to up-and-coming official Mollie Luce.
