Jets restart promotion push with two victories

The Island side will travel to the Premier League play-offs in April as stand-ins for champions-elect Aquarians, because the Dorset club have opted against national netball.

That has forced Linda Andrews to begin quick-fire preparations for a trip to Hull, with the head coach now testing her on-court partnerships before a round-robin weekend that could end with a return to Premier League 3.

Hucclecote Stars are the only side who can now deny Jets a second-place finish in their first season back on the South West ladder, although as they already have a Premier League team they are ineligible for promotion.

Jets beat Premier Romans 61-53 on Saturday before seeing off Galmington 66-46 on Sunday morning. Lisa Luce was named player of the match against the Romans, with Molly Carré collecting the accolade a day later.

Their second encounter was not as straightforward as the scoreline suggests, though.

‘The game didn’t really reflect the score,’ said Andrews.

‘It was a full-on 60-minute game and the pleasing thing for us was we mixed up our combinations. We’re going to the play-offs so we need to make sure all the new players understand what we’re working on and everyone stood up and played their part, which was excellent.

‘We got the ball into the circle off interceptions and turnover balls and that was pleasing because that’s been an area we’ve had to work hard on.

‘I’m very happy.’
