Comfortable start for title-chasing Jets

The Island club began their South West Regional Division I campaign with a 54-48 triumph over Hucclecote Stars on Saturday afternoon, before doubling up at Bath University yesterday lunchtime through a 59-43 success against Almondsbury.

Defeat in the Premier League play-offs in April left the Caesareans disappointed but their performances up to that point had been good. A continuation of that form will almost certainly be enough to guide them back to the play-offs this term – earning them a shot at an immediate return to PL3 – but having to contend with two games in two days makes life difficult.

Regional teams are not forced to travel to Jersey and all of Jets’ divisional rivals this season refused to take up the offer, leaving Linda Andrews’ side – short on sponsorship – with eight away double-headers and ten trips in total between now and March.

Nevertheless, one weekend down with maximum points (and a happy head coach) in tow … job done.

‘All in all it was a really positive weekend,’ said Andrews.

‘We managed to get everybody on and [yesterday] we were mindful of having fresh legs so we moved the combinations around. It was good experience for them to get to grips with the regional league and for us to look at what we need to work on.’
