JERSEY BULLS eased past AFC Varndeanians at the Withdean Stadium, a 4-1 win booking their place in the second qualifying round of the FA Vase.

Sol Solomon got Gary Freeman’s side off and running early on, latching onto a cross into the penalty area from Frank Tobin and, after dominating possession, the visitors soon had a second.

Lorne Bickley and Ruben Mendes combined, the former calmly beating Jordan Hawkins in the home goal after being released by a clever Mendes through ball.

Solomon then added a wonderful third, curling in a sublime free kick from 20 yards after he was initially upended by Omar Bukler.

Both goalscorers were withdrawn early on into the second half – Freeman having one eye on a league assignment at Abbey Rangers on Tuesday night – and it allowed the Southern Combination club to find their feet.

They were unfortunate to concede a fourth, Matt Gunn putting through his own goal, but notched an excellent consolation right at the death through Mark Goldson, who hit a brilliant, arrowed, effort into the top corner.

Freeman will take his men to Shoreham in the next round, the Southern Combination Division One side beating Step Five Lingfield on Friday night.
