Experience key for Navy test

The Islanders travel to HMS Temeraire for their second group game of the campaign, with sights set on a dose of revenge after suffering a late defeat to the Royal Navy in the same competition 13 months ago.

Goalkeeper Tayah Vasse and versatile defender Daniella Da Silva are both in line for their debuts, although Morris says Jersey’s performance characterised by the effort put in by the wiser heads.

‘It’s great to have all the young ones coming through from the [JFA] Player Development Centre, as we keep building a squad towards Guernsey and the next Island Games,’ Morris explained. ‘But the senior players are the most important ones for us at the moment. They’re the ones who will set the tone for hard work and a positive attitude, and we’ve got plenty of them in the squad.

‘It’s always going to be physical when you play the Navy and we’re expecting a competitive game.’

National League South players Megan Wood and Holly Muirhead will make the journey to Portsmouth from Yeovil and Chichester respectively, while the likes of Island Games caps Ciara Giles, Eve Watson, Louise Van Der Vliet and Libby Barnett travel from Jersey for the 7.30pm kick-off.

Jersey Women: Amy Tierney, Libby Barnett, Abi Scandrett, Louise Van Der Vliet, Lauren Trachy, Samantha Silva (all Jersey Wanderers), Ciara Giles, Daniella Da Silva, Eve Watson, Aine Ruth, Tayah Vasse, Tiffany Sundby, Daisy Jackson (all Rozel Rovers), Holly Muirhead (Chichester City), Tammi Kerr (Grouville), Megan Wood (Yeovil Town).
