Football: Cassidy calls for ruthless streak in Inter League Cup

Jersey’s representative side often struggled to find the net during friendlies last season, before being knocked out in the group stages of the 2017 Island Games on goal difference.

But, as they prepare to return to Springfield on Saturday under the guise of the Jersey Football Combination, the manager has brought in fire-power from across the Premiership.

Matt Rawlings, Dom Pougeolle, Arthur Illingworth and Harry Cardwell have received rare or debut call-ups for the first round clash with Essex Olympian League, providing options in attack alongside St Paul’s quartet Kieran Lester, Craig Russell, Karl Hinds and Adam Trotter.

‘One thing that I learned from last season was that we need to be more ruthless in front of goal,’ said Cassidy.

‘I’ve brought in the top scorers from all the clubs. It gives ourselves an opportunity to have scoring threats all over the pitch and it puts pressure on our starting front-three to perform, as we’ll have good options on the bench.’

Free entry will be available for children under 11 tomorrow. Kick-off 3 pm.
