Rugby convert Campbell claims district boxing title

FORMER Jersey Reds second row Nick Campbell continued his perfect start to life as a boxer on Saturday with a tight victory over two-time British champion Connal McDonald.

The 26-year-old clinched the Scottish Western Districts super-heavyweight title thanks to a points decision in Glasgow – just three bouts into his boxing career after seeing out his professional rugby contract at St Peter last season.

‘There were a lot of people who thought I shouldn’t have taken this fight because of his [McDonald’s] experience,’ said Campbell, still living in Jersey and training through Boxin Business at Fort Regent.

‘He’s a very good boxer and has fought at the World and European Youth Championships. I got outboxed in the first round – he was pretty elusive – but I pushed as hard as I could after that and took care of business.'
