A FIRST-HALF hat-trick from Hannah Campbell got Rozel Rovers off to a flying start in their defence of the Zenith Cup on Sunday.
Rozel ran out 4-0 winners over new girls St Peter, with all four goals coming in the opening 45 minutes. Nazmin Ribeiro was also on target. However, it was not all as one way as the scoreline suggests, with Rozel goalkeeper Tayah Vasse pulling off a number of saves in a player-of-the-match performance.
Rozel next face Jersey Wanderers, away again, on Sunday.
Three teams made it two wins from two in the Premiership 2.
A double from Clife Silva gave Sports Club a 2-0 win over Dragoes at Springfield, while Rozel Rovers made light work of St Lawrence, winning 5-0 at Three Oaks. Alfie Le Cornu scored twice with Harvey Butler, Nick Breakspear and Callum Morris also on target.
St John find themselves at the top of the division at this early stage by virtue of goals scored. They beat First Tower United 3-0 at the Rec thanks to a double from Ethan Boudin and a strike from Paul Walker. Meanwhile, goals from Diogo Ferreira and Pedro Silva ensured Madeira bounced back from their opening defeat with a 2-0 win over Sporting Academics.
In the Championship 2 division, Grouville Reserves succumbed to a 2-1 defeat at home to St Ouen Reserves, despite taking the lead through Andre Nunes. Second-half goals from Scott Welsh and Ben Cesar gave the visitors all three points.
Goals from Stephan Phelan and Leighton Cavey gave St Brelade Reserves a 2-0 home win over St Helyi, while St Peter Reserves put seven past Rozel Rovers Reserves without reply, courtesy of Ryan Le Cornu (two), Jamie Watling, Jack Hardisty, Dane McCormick, Hayden Dadswell and Darren Coyle.
In the O35 Division, defending champions St Paul’s enjoyed a comfortable 6-1 win at home to St Peter. Stephen O’Brien hit a hat-trick, Craig Leith bagged a brace and Steven Ruiz also struck for St Paul’s, with ex-Football League professional Peter Vincenti scoring St Peter’s consolation.
St Lawrence struck 11 goals past Portuguese, who replied with two. Phil Kendall and Michael O’Donoghue both scored hat-tricks in the win, Steven Prue struck twice, with Scott Sale, David Cloarec and Riccardo Cardia also scoring for the veteran Grills.
Meanwhile, goals from Shane Carre (two), Jimmy Styles and Alan Humphreys gave St Ouen a 4-2 over St Clement, who scored through Kieran O’Neill and Rob Telfer.
And a hat-trick from Danny Moisin helped give St John a 4-2 win over Grouville in the Walking Football League’s only game of the weekend. Mark Griffith grabbed the fourth.
