Farmers’ efficient team effort at the crease was enough to track down OVs’ 161-5 – which included a 108 solo-effort from Corey Bisson – to take the win with one over and five wickets to spare.

OVs came into the final having beaten ATF St Ouen-Springfield in the semi-final on Saturday morning.

A large crowd then packed into Farmers Field for an afternoon of high-calibre cricket.

The cliché ‘catches win matches’ could be applied to the game, but in reverse. ‘Dropped-catches cost matches’ seemed more fitting for this final.

Farmers were sitting at 125/5 off 15 overs and it looked like the game would go right down to the wire. Ben Kynman had just been well-caught by Elliot Corbel and up stepped Chuggy Perchard to partner Asa Tribe, who had already scored 37 runs.

The pivotal point came in the 17th over as a long hit from Perchard was dropped by an OVs fielder.

The Jersey captain made the away team pay by hitting back-to-back sixes, which was followed by a four to leave Farmers needing 13 runs from the last three overs – something they achieved in less than two.

After the game Perchard acknowledged the significance of that dropped catch.

‘That helped us get over the line but overall I think it was a really solid display with the bat from the whole side today,’ he said.

OVs’ score of 161 was largely made up of Corey Bisson’s 108, which saw him last the full 20 overs. Bisson was eventually run out on the last over but received a standing-ovation from the crowd as he exited play.

Farmers have now put themselves ahead in the race to qualify for the European Cricket League 2022.
