Rosemary on time in virtual rowing race
JERSEY rower Rosemary Satchwell took top honours in her first virtual race of the season, organised by the Guernsey Rowing Club.
Satchwell came first out of a pool of 11 female rowers to win the 3,100-metre ‘St Sampsons to St Peter Port’ race on a Concept 2 rower, competed over the increasingly-popular web conferencing software Zoom. She claimed the full 50 points on offer for the race winner in a time of 12 minutes and 19.2 seconds – four seconds ahead of the second-placed rower from Carteret, France, the unusually named Holiday Viefacile Joanne (which translates as holiday easy life Joanne!).
Meanwhile, two other Caesareans, Will Le Quelenec (10min 29.2secs) and Des Nevitt (10.30.9) finished second and third respectively in the men’s race, which was won by UK-based James Plumley. James Salkeld and Simon du Feu also made up the delegation from the Jersey Rowing Club, finishing 14th and 17th respectively.
