Three young Islanders who headed off to boarding school in Ireland three years ago will all be starting for the Clongowes Wood College Junior 1st XV in their opening match against Catholic University School, Dublin, in the prestigious Leinster Schools Junior Cup later today.
Dan Daly, who attended Victoria College, will start at No 8, Fiach Devitt, who attended De La Salle, will start at scrum half, while Samuel Pinel, who attended Victoria College and De La Salle, will start at 15.
Played between Year 3 (Jersey Year 10, U15s) teams from the Leinster area, this is the first serious competition for Leinster schoolboys and they will face tough opposition from such as Blackrock, Belvedere and St Michael’s – to name but a few.
The trio have been training at least three times a week for the past three years, playing over 20 games a year, to bring them to this stage. Their opening game is at MU Barnhall RFC, in County Kildare, Ireland.
