The round-robin tournament of tier-two ranked countries runs from Friday to Sunday in the Croatian capital, where Wales are due to face the host nation, Poland, Russia, Lithuania, Turkey and home rivals Scotland.

Goalkeeper Roberts, who won her first cap for Wales against Turkey last summer in the outdoor version of the game, is looking forward to the experience and is confident of a good performance from her team.

‘I’m really pleased to be selected. It is a really exciting opportunity,’ said Roberts, who plays her club hockey for University of Brighton.

‘It should be challenging but exciting for the girls and we’re pretty positive we can get a top three place.’

The top two teams get promoted to the tier one group and the favourites, Poland and Russia, are Wales’ first two opponents on Friday.

‘It’s a tough first day’, admitted Roberts who hasn’t played a competitive indoor match for four years. ‘But we’re also really looking forward to the Scotland match on Sunday because of the rivalry but we have done a lot of prep and research on all of our opponents and go into the tournament with a game plan. Indoor hockey is a lot more practical. It’s played on a much smaller space so you have to be more tactically aware’.
