Magnificent for Malzard

Magnificent for Malzard

The wins, in the first, third and fifth races of the day, put her level with James Moon, but a better minor-placings record lifted her to the top spot. The Clarendon meeting proved to be an altogether brilliant finale for Malzard who also won the feature race of the day, the prestigious Stenham Wealth Management Clarendon Handicap, with Winklevi (5/4) beating Aussie Lyrics, of 2017 trainers’ champion Christa Gilbert. Gilbert had two second places on the day, missing out on tying on the number of winners in the trainers’ table by just one.

Malzard and jockey Mattie Batchelor had a tremendously consistent day, with two victories (Barwick and Winklevi) and two second places (Country Blue and Ice Royal). Fred Tett guided Malzard’s Flutterbee to victory in the final race.

Philip Prince won the jockey’s title, despite not recording a victory yesterday.

The Champion horse title went to trainer James Moon’s extra-ordinary Black Night, who was away racing in France, while his mother Anne was crowned the Champion Owner. Alice Mills won the Champion Lady Jockey title.
