Bronze treble at British Offshore champs

Solo rowers Des Nevitt and James Salkeld claimed third and fourth, respectively, in the Open final in Poole, although with the top two medallists both hailing from mainland Europe the Jersey Rowing Club members can this week consider themselves the best in Britain. Nevitt finished the 6 km final off the coast of Dorset just over 90 seconds behind the Swedish winner – clocking 36 min 37 sec – with Salkeld less than a minute behind.

In the men’s pairs final, Ricky Rouille and Paul Coutanche also finished third – just 20 seconds off silver – and a re-jigged men’s quartet of Andy Bowman, Will Le Quélènec, Michael Rive, Hayden Rouille and cox Michel Trehorel ended with bronze following a tight race alongside champions Tyrian and runners-up Canford Crocs. The Islanders crossed the line in 31.17 – 13 seconds behind Canford.

Rive, who was originally scheduled to compete in the pairs alongside Stephen Reed, stepped in for the injured Chris Morshead.

Ricky Rouille’s medal adds to the gold he won in the same event last year, alongside Tim Rogers.
