Reds enjoy picking Cherries’ know-how

The Islanders went head to head with the Premiership club in a contested training session on Tuesday night, with set-pieces and back-line moves being put to the test at St Peter in preparation for the visit of Old Elthamians on Saturday.

And Robinson, who moved to Jersey from Rotherham Titans earlier this summer, appeared pleased with how the squad as a whole are developing.

‘We threw some good stuff at them,’ he said.

‘It’s always enjoyable to go up against quality opposition and we cut them at times, which was pleasing to see.

‘We’ve talked about playing with intensity but it’s not until you come up against intense teams that you can really test yourself. If you’re looking at perfection, it wasn’t 100 per cent perfect, but success depends on how it’s defined and how we defined success there [Tuesday night] was being able to cope under pressure. I think we did that.’

Discussing the boost provided by a Premiership approach to training, he added: ‘You always pick up things talking to people, so to meet new coaches and players has been brilliant.’
