The Jerseyman and his Gloucester Rugby colleagues are scheduled to appear at St Peter on Tuesday 14 August for an open training session against Harvey Biljon’s professional squad, forming part of their pre-season training tour to the Island. It comes after this Saturday’s scheduled visit of fellow top-flight giants Harlequins, for an official pre-season friendly.

Gloucester’s contested training session against Jersey will be open to the public [gates open at 4.30 pm for a 5.30 pm start], with a BBQ to follow as fans are handed the chance to meet the Reds players.

Jersey Reds chairman Mark Morgan said: ‘I can’t think of any other situation in any sport where two Premiership sides have been in the Island within three or four days of each other. I keep feeling that we are breaking new ground here.

‘It has come through a direct approach from Gloucester, through the coaching staff who Harvey knows there, and what is really nice about it is we have been able to invited fans, members supports along. They will be able to come up to the clubhouse afterwards to meet the players, and there will be some big name players up there. And of course it will be a great chance to meet our new players for next season as well.’

The Reds welcome Harlequins to Stade Santander this Saturday [7 pm], with a number of England internationals including Mike Brown, Chris Robshaw and Danny Care due to play a part. Quins won 47-21 when the clubs met 12 months ago at the Stoop.

Tickets for Tuesday’s BBQ [£10 per person] can be booked by emailing sean.dunne@jerseyreds.je.
