Victoria head for Barbados

It will be the seventh time the school have toured the West Indies, having been to St Lucia in 2014 and 2016. Fifteen boys from Year 9 and 10 at the College form the squad, with teachers Matthew Smith, Matt Dixon and Sam Habin also on tour.

Hopes are high that the boys will be able to cope with five tough matches against local opposition in what will be rather warmer conditions than they are used to. Victoria, sponsored by Rathbones, will play Lester Vaughan School, Milwall Saints CC, Isolation Cavaliers CC, Colleridge & Parry School and Alexandra School.

Previous tours have resulted in Victoria winning two out of five matches in 2016 and three out of four in 2014 as well as playing at the International Darren Sammy Stadium in Beausejour.

The team warmed up with a win last Saturday against Elizabeth College, with Jamie Watling scoring 47 and George Daniels taking three wickets. They also beat the College’s 2nd XI on Tuesday when Will Mulholland took five wickets.

The team has three boys who have been playing in the College 1st XI in the Premier League of Jersey cricket, so hopes are high for a successful time away.

Squad: Josh Lawrenson, Jamie Watling, Patrick Gouge, Toby Clark, Will Mulholland, Aidan Johnstone, Robbie Forrest, Henry Harrison, Dylan Kotedia, George Daniels, Dylan Stocks, Fraser Crow, Charlie Reid, Freddie Pollard, Anushan Elanco.
