WATCH: Surfing: CI women struggle on opening day

Sport | Published:

CHANNEL ISLANDS surfing endured a baptism of fire on the opening day of the World Surfing Games in Biarritz, with both female riders failing to make it past the opening round.

Team captain Laurie McGregor and Chantelle Coote finished third in their respective heats on Saturday before ending their repêchage outside the top two. Their appearances acted as a debut for CI at an International Surfing Association event after their acceptance as a 'nation' onto the global stage in March.

The men – Jez Browning, Josh Evans, Alex Vibert and Matt Chapman – were due to begin their competition today alongside 164 other competitors from around the world.
