Rugby: Reds are looking up

Starting the day second bottom of an extremely tight division, the Reds go into cup action over the next two weekends knowing that they are just three points off a play-off spot, albeit just one of several like-placed clubs in a crowded pack.

The Championship format regarding funding and sustainability has come in for huge amounts of criticism, but on the playing field it is enthrallingly competitive, particularly with basement boys Richmond staging an impressive revival.

So no surprise that Reds’ head coach Harvey Biljon was delighted with the result, above all else, at home to Doncaster Knights.

Said Biljon after Jersey’s 35-29 victory: ‘What a win – five points, which is the most important thing.

‘It was difficult in the second half and losing our captain was tough, but ultimately the players dug it out.’

Full report and reaction in Monday’s JEP.
