Netball: Jets share spoils with Chester

The Jersey side certainly fully-deserved the standing ovation they received from their ecstatic support at the final whistle, which probably came just 15 seconds or so too early as they were, for the first time in the match, seeking what would have been an astonishing victory.

Such a morale-boosting result in Premier Netball 2 simply never looked ‘on’ as a five-to-six-point deficit proved so hard to chip away at in the final two quarters in the Rotunda.

Mis-firing in attack at times, with the final ball often going astray and recently returning goal shooter/attack Sophie Holmes taking time to settle into the team’s rhythm, Jersey trailed throughout after having scored the first point through Lynsey Pitman, though they did edge in front at 39-38 near the death.

Head coach Linda Andrews said: ‘It does feel like a win; the girls were just gradually pulling it back, but in that third quarter we just couldn’t break the six-point deficit for so long. Then we got back to within four and the defence were consistently winning possession – I’m delighted to get this draw.’
