After winning a superb bronze medal in Bucharest in April, Jersey has won the right to host the Division III tournament next year – fending off rival tenders from Sweden, Malta, Luxembourg and Romania.
The European Squash Federation have implied that the Junior European Tour will be brought to St Clement if the tournament is deemed a success, so the JSA have applied for £15,000-worth of support from the Tourism Development Fund to add gloss to an event which is set to attract players from 16 countries.
'The ESF are vetting nations more now and we want to prove that we can run a world class event,' said tournament director Nick Taylor.
Should the European Team Championships tick all the boxes and impress ESF delegates between 4-7 April 2017, the JSA intend to hold their first Junior Tour event between October 2017 and February 2018.
