Cricket: Gough guides Jersey to victory

Peter Gough’s men regained the inter-insular trophy, with the captain also picking up the man-of-the-match award for a hard-earned and ultimately vital innings of 95.

Put into bat by Guernsey, the hosts struggled to get into a high-scoring rhythm and most in the crowd of 250 or so thought their total of 206 all out, from 48 overs, was 20 to 30 runs shy of a match-winning score.

Credit Guernsey for an excellent fielding performance, with bowlers Will Fazakerley and Max Ellis particularly impressive, but with roles reversed Jersey put on an even stronger show to strangle the life out of the Sarnians’ reply.
