Early goals from Craig Russell, Michael Weir and Ben Cutting put the holders 3-0 up at Springfield before they were forced to work for their victory towards the game’s conclusion as Karl Hinds and Barry Keith struck either side of half-time to make it 3-2.
The Trinity goal-scoring duo’s nights ended in disgrace, though, with both being shown straight red cards in the 94th minute – Keith for a stamp, and attempted punch, on Luke Watson, and Hinds for an alleged swing for referee Rob Timm.
