Rugby preview: Play-off hopes still flickering

The Exiles visit St Peter with a point to prove following the Islanders comprehensive 20-5 win in the reverse fixture at the Athletic Ground in November, but Jersey arguably have more at stake, with a play-off position not yet out of reach.

Fifth in the table, Harvey Biljon’s team trail both Bedford Blues and Yorkshire Carnegie – third and fourth respectively – by 12 points and although it appears a huge ask to close the gap, on paper, they have the easiest run-in of the three clubs.

Following a disappointing display of place kicking at Headingley on Sunday, Aaron Penberthy has been recalled to the starting XV, although Biljon insists his selection is not a knee-jerk reaction to last weekend’s shortcomings.

The Cornishman starts at full-back and Ross Adair will play on the right wing as Tom Howe is dropped from the squad. In the pack, Danny Herriott comes in for Simon Kerrod and Sam Lockwood – ruled out for the remainder of the season with a broken arm – is replaced by Nacho Lancuba, who will make his 50th appearance for the club.

Jack Moates returns to the bench as Sami Fisilau is also unavailable due to injury.
