Rugby: ‘Reds must keep climbing’ – Markham

The Islanders welcome Welsh, and former Red Ryan Hodson, to St Peter having risen to fifth in the table two weeks ago with a last-gasp win away at fourth-placed Bedford.

An 11-point deficit still stands between Harvey Biljon’s men and the playoffs, but Markham remains confident the margin can be overcome.

‘Bedford have three of the top four to play in their last four games, so if we look after our home games, which we should do, and pick up a few points on the road we could potentially find ourselves in the top four,’ said the lofty second-row.

‘We set a target for ourselves for the last seven or eight games and created a little league table from fourth down to about seventh, and we just want to finish top of that.

‘That will give us an opportunity to get into that top four, which is what the club want to be doing – we want to be pushing on and continuously climbing that ladder.’
