Serena superb as England conquer Aussies
ISLAND netballer Serena Guthrie was one of the pillars of the England team's superb victory over World champions Australia yesterday.
The former Convent and Jersey star put in a tremendous performance alongside Sara Bayman in the mid-court area as England surged into a 33-22 half time lead against the Diamonds, then held on for a famous 58-53 victory.
Despite getting lengthly ice pack treatment after a spectacular interception Guthrie, profiled in the Sunday Times prior to the game, carried on to help her team over the line against the hot favourites.
The win in Bath was only England's third ever triumph over the Australians and came in the first of a three match series, with the second match being held at Wembley Arena this Wednesday evening. The series is being screened live by Sky TV.
