Jersey have lift-off

Their brutally tough introduction to the second tier of English rugby, following years of virtually uninterrupted glory, has been absorbed and learned from – as was witnessed by another big crowd at St Peter on Saturday.

Their nail-bitingly tense 16-14 eclipse of a good Plymouth Albion outfit, standing fourth in the table before the kick-off, was that extra bit of proof the fans – and possibly themselves – needed. Yes, they can cut it at this level and are now unbeaten in four games, the last three being victories.

The last two of those games – both at a St Peter that is beginning to look an awful lot harder a place visit than it was just a month ago – have yielded two victories and eight points.

Even with just a solitary point gleaned from the previous six Championship matches it is enough to lift Jersey off the bottom of the table, albeit only by a point. Doncaster Knights now sit at the bottom.
