I ATTENDED (via zoom) the St Helier Parish Assembly on Wednesday 9 June, which refused overwhelmingly the construction of the planned access route for the proposed new hospital. What happens next? It is of major concern that Senator Lyndon Farnham states that ‘work will not be held up’ despite this result.
1. Why were we invited to debate the propositions if the result is blatantly ignored?
2. Why does Senator Farnham take no responsibility for addressing legitimate concerns of those attending the parish assembly?
3. Why are not the questions raised by Advocate Olaf Blakeley answered? Instead, Senator Farnham repeats ‘this makes us all the more determined to deliver the hospital’.
4. Why are we asked for feedback and then the feedback is seemingly ignored if not in agreement?
It really is such an unsatisfactory situation when Senator Farnham cannot respond to the many legitimate questions raised at a formal parish assembly – and our government wonders why there is little engagement from Islanders at election time. I hope Islanders take note of the letter (JEP 11 June) from John Boothman.
