Woman badly burned in doorstep substance attack

A woman is in hospital with serious burns after a masked attacker threw a corrosive substance in her face.

The victim was attacked on the doorstep of a property in Captain’s Road, in south-east Edinburgh, at around 8.40pm on Friday.

Police Scotland said a man wearing a dark hooded tracksuit threw the substance over the 37-year-old when she answered the door.

She suffered serious burns to her face and neck and is continuing to receive treatment from medics.

No further details of the type of substance involved have been released at this stage.

The suspect is described as being in his early 20s, 5ft 11in tall with a slim build.

His face was covered and he was wearing dark gloves and dark trainers with light reflective sections.

Detective Inspector Stevie Rosie said: “We are still working to establish the motive surrounding this attack.

“However, we believe this to be a targeted attack. Police are supporting the victim, who has sustained some very serious injuries to her face and neck.

“Anyone who recognises him, or who has any other information relevant to this investigation, should contact police immediately.”
