The celebrities calling for a people’s vote

As an estimated 600,000 people marched in a bid for a second Brexit referendum, dozens of famous faces threw their weight behind the cause.

Andy Serkis – The Lord of the Ring’s star described the protest as “One of the most, if not THE most important marches of our generation” in a tweet last week.

The 54-year-old was joined on the march by his wife Lorraine Ashbourne and 14-year-old son Louis.

He told the Press Association: “The will of the people is now, it’s people expressing their points of view in a more informed state.”

Gemma Chan – The Humans and Crazy Rich Asians star’s sense of humour showed through on her banner, which read: “Even Baldrick had a f****** plan.”

Jenny Eclair – The comedian joked on Twitter that it was “a lovely day for marching” adding that there were so many people there was no room to actually march.

Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall – The TV chef joined forces with Delia Smith, who is speaking at the event – tweeting: “Theresa May is cooking up a Brexit disaster. I’m with Delia.”

Catherine Russell and Hugh Quarshie – The Holby City actors – who play Serena Campbell and Ric Griffin on the soap –  tweeted a video of themselves at the beginning of the march.

Russell says: “Where are you? We’re here. Look!”

Quarshie adds: “If Brexit happens it might be your fault but it won’t be ours.”

Russell later tweeted a challenge to Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn asking him where he was.

Richard Bacon – The TV presenter made a joke of his recent return to the Blue Peter fold by tweeting a pic of himself sporting a “Bollocks to Brexit” sticker with the words  “Another day, another badge”.

Bacon was given a Blue Peter badge three days ago – 20 years after being sacked as a presenter for admitting taking cocaine.

He was finally forgiven on the kids’ TV show’s 60th anniversary celebrations.

Deborah Meaden – The entrepreneur and Dragon’s Den star also took to the streets, posting a pic of herself with Labour MP Chuka Umunna and other snaps from the crowd.

She tweeted: “We are ready to show how important #peoplesvote is and its awesome #ffs”
