Man dies in hospital after ‘explosion’ at fireworks factory

A man aged in his 20s has died in hospital following a reported explosion at a fireworks factory in Peterborough.

The man suffered severe burns and was airlifted from the Le Maitre pyrotechnics factory to Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge on Tuesday, but his life could not be saved.

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) is leading an investigation into what happened at the site in Fourth Drove, Fengate.

The force was called at 11am on Tuesday with “reports of an explosion” at the fireworks factory.

The building’s roof was visibly damaged after the incident.
