Pub closed after roof collapses

A pub has been cordoned off after part of the roof fell onto the pavement.

Emergency services were called to the scene at the Cardwell Bar on Cardwell Road, Gourock just after 4pm on Wednesday.

No one was injured in the incident and the building has been fenced off.

Police and building control officers from Inverclyde Council attended along with three fire engines.

Inverclyde Road Watch posted pictures on Facebook urging people to avoid the area.

Cardwell Bar staff told customers about the incident in a post on their Facebook page.

They wrote: “So how’s your Wednesday going?

“The roof has fallen off the pub. Everyone is ok, no one harmed.

“The pub is closed in the meantime, We’ll let you know any new info ASAP.”

Inverclyde Council said they were working with Cardwell Bar to deal with the incident.

The council tweeted: “Our building control officer has been on the scene working with the landlord of the Cardwell Bar in Gourock to ensure the building is made safe & to arrange for the pavement to be re-opened.

“Please use caution in the vicinity & follow any safety advice.”
