Murder probe police appeal for witnesses to earlier incident in pub

Police are appealing for witnesses to an incident in a Bristol pub which they believe is linked to a murder investigation.

The appeal on Sunday came after a 39-year-old man was found with serious injuries in Leinster Avenue in the Knowle area of the city shortly after 11.30pm on Friday.

Following his death a short time later, a 29-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder while a 32-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.

DI Jim Taylor, from Avon and Somerset Police’s major crime investigation team, said it was believed the assault was linked to an earlier disturbance at the New Found Out pub in Green Street, Totterdown.

“We’d like to speak to anyone who was in the New Found Out pub on Friday night who saw a disorder at about 11.20pm,” he said.

“If you saw any part of this incident, or were in the area of the pub and saw anything which could help, please call us.”

DI Taylor said a post-mortem examination and formal identification had not yet take place so he was not able to give any detail about the man’s cause of death.

He said: “Our thoughts are very much with the victim’s family and our sole focus is on fully investigating the events leading up to this tragic incident.

“I’d like to thank the local community for the help they’ve given us so far.”

DI Taylor added that the two men arrested in connection with the incident remained in custody.

Anyone with information is asked to call 101, quoting reference number 5218008952.
